The ELA technology standard that I would feel most prepared teaching is the “Multimedia:” Science/Technical Subjects standard. I feel very confident in the skills included in this standard such as, tables, charts, and graphs. I feel as though I would truly be able to teach students about this with the knowledge I already have. A standard that would require more learning for me would be the “Multimedia:” Literature one. I am not as confident in my literature skills and would definitely need some practice on some aspects, such as analyzing the meaning and tone of text.
While creating my newsletter, a new skill I learned was where to find pictures that were licensed with all creative commons. These photos could be used without having to cite where they came from. I think this is a very useful thing to do because you don’t have to waste time or space on your document citing where the picture came from. These photos are open for public use and are very helpful when doing an assignment such as the newsletter. Now that I know how to access these pictures it will allow me to use them in more of my assignments in the future. As a teacher, many graphics and pictures are used and it is important that they are properly cited. With these creative commons pictures, it is an easy way to access pictures that are free to be used without any citation. I have attached a screenshot of the first page of my newsletter.

As a student I use Microsoft word almost every day. I use word as my way to take notes in class. Instead of the traditional pen and paper nots, I type all my notes into word. I also use word when doing assignments such as writing papers. Although google docs seems to be the new trend, I have always liked Microsoft word better and continue to use it for almost all of my classes. I have also seen many teachers use it to display directions to an assignment or an announcement about the class. Instead of having it written out, teachers can just display the word document with the type on it.
In school I feel like I have encountered copyright and fair use of materials often. When doing different assignments, I have to be sure not to use any copyrighted information, photos, or graphs without proper citations. I also have to consider the fair use guidelines when taking things from the internet or textbooks. As a teacher I think it is important to inform students on the copyright issues and fair use guidelines. It would be important for the teacher to follow all the guidelines if they want to have their student do the same thing.
One implementation issue mention in chapter 9 is ADA Compliance. ADA Compliance says that information online must be accessible for people with disabilities. A solution for this could be including pictures or visual aids in an article or document for students who may have trouble reading. Another implementation issue is acceptable use. Acceptable use outlines what you can and can't do with technology. It is important to have students sign an acceptable use form to be sure that they understand the terms of acceptable use and help make sure nothing is done on technology that shouldn't be. Academic dishonesty is another implementation issue. To prevent this in the classroom, it is important to inform students about it and also explain the consequences to make sure they do not partake in any dishonest actions.

Teachers and students are influenced to use technology in the classroom in many ways. With the never ending change of technology allows for a lot of room to grow in the classroom. Technology allows for teachers to display information in new and more interactive ways. Technology in a classroom can be used in many different ways such as communication, giving tests, or submitting assignments. With technology everywhere students are more likely to want to learn about it and be involved with it.

The ISTE Standards are standards used for the use in technology for teaching and learning. I think these standards really outline how technology is learned and taught in the classroom. One standard for students that really stood out for me is the global collaborator standard. This standard talks about who students use technology to broaden their knowledge and enhance their learning. This is done through connecting with others. I think this is one of the most amazing things about technology. It allows you to connect with people all over the world. This allows students to collaborate and learn new skills from people with different backgrounds. One standard that I am not as comfortable with is the creative communicator standard. I am not a very creative person so it is hard for me to create very original work.

I do agree with the label “digital native” for today's youth. A digital native is someone who is born and raised during the digital technology age and is familiar with computers and the internet. I do think there is some differences between how students and teachers use technology. Depending on if a teacher has studied technology, they usually are less skilled in some technology than students. Teachers that I have had that are less skilled in technology tend to avoid the use of it as much as possible. I think as future generations come along they will be even more advanced in technology than students are now.

When it comes to technology, I have been surrounded by it since a very young age. My family always purchased the newest computers, TV’s, and phones that came out every year. My dad studied graphic design in college so he was always showing my sister and I different ways to create things on the computer. My mom works in the computer department for a school district so she knew many different computer tricks that she would always show us. I think I have a very good background with technology but there is always room to learn more.

In this class I hope to advance my computer skills even further. I hope to grasp a better understanding of the best ways to use different applications and tricks to get things done more efficiently. I hope to gain skills that I didn’t even know existed while also practicing old skills that I am proficient at.

For my learning styles, I learned that I am very much a visual learner. I learn much better by looking at a picture or actually seeing it done rather that juts having directions be given. I am also a sequential learning. Doing things step by step helps me better grasp the topic. Also, I am a sensing learner. I would much rather learn facts than having to discover something on my own. Lastly I am very much an active learner. I am more likely to remember something if I actually do something active about the topic or subject. The results from the learning styles quiz did not surprise me at all, the results show exactly how I like and prefer to learn.
